Join a candid lunch-and-learn conversation with Dr. Randy Barbour, Jr., the City of Huntsville’s Director of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion in the office of Multicultural Affairs. As a lifelong Huntsville resident and seasoned psychologist with extensive experience in both academia and civic service, Dr. Barbour leads the City's efforts in fostering cross-cultural dialogue and equitable opportunity across our vibrant community.
Dr. Barbour’s background includes serving as an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Alabama A&M University and working at the Harris Home for Children and North Alabama Center for Educational Excellence—roles that shaped his deep commitment to inclusive service and leadership development.

More about Randy:
Dr. Randy Barbour, Jr., a native of Huntsville, AL, is a proud graduate of James Oliver
Johnson High School (Class of 2006). He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from
Cornell University, where he also played collegiate football. He later completed a Master of
Business Administration at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and both a Master of
Arts and Ph.D. in Community Psychology from Wichita State University.
In January 2025, Dr. Barbour was appointed Director of Multicultural Affairs for the City of
Huntsville. In this role, he leads efforts to promote inclusivity, civic engagement, and
community empowerment across the city. Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor
of Psychology at Alabama A&M University, where he was actively involved in teaching,
mentoring, and research.
Dr. Barbour is also a research and evaluation consultant, collaborating on funded projects
with Alabama A&M University and Michigan State University. His work focuses on closing
the academic achievement gap, promoting mental and emotional health in communities of
color, examining the health effects of environmental pollution, and exploring the
psychological benefits of time spent in nature.
Passionate about service, Dr. Barbour serves on the Board of Directors for two Los Angeles-
based organizations—EmpowerCare Solutions and the Pride Pathways Program—both
dedicated to supporting individuals facing economic and housing instability. He is also an
active member of the Delta Theta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity,
Incorporated, where he supports the chapter’s Education Foundation.
A man of faith, Dr. Barbour is an ordained Elder at Church Street Cumberland Presbyterian
Church in America. His interests include reading, research, fitness, and spending quality
time with his family and friends.
He is married to his wife, Danielle, and together they are the proud parents of a son,
Greyson.
Dr. Barbour lives by a principle he learned from his fourth-grade teacher, Mrs. Stocker, at
Highlands Elementary School:
